Recyclable packaging at NIKU Farms

June 18, 2021

Our team at NIKU Farms is dedicated to contributing to a healthier earth, and that doesn’t stop at our sustainable farming practices. Did you know that all of our boxes and packaging insulation is entirely recyclable and biodegradable?

Okay, but did you know that you can actually use our Green Cell Foam packaging insulation beyond tossing it in the blue bin?

Green Cell Foam is a biodegradable limited impact alternative that is recyclable and made of non-GMO cornstarch. The foam works just as well as petroleum-based alternatives, but manufacturing it requires 70% less energy, and produces 80% less greenhouse gasses.

We prioritize reusable packaging with hopes of reducing waste and urge other Canadian companies to join us in this endeavour!

Reusing and Disposing of our Recyclable Packaging:

Feeding Your Plants

Place large pieces of the Green Cell Foam into a bucket of water and let sit overnight, or pour the mixture onto your plants— it is a great plant food!

Burn It (Safely)

Green Cell Foam burns cleanly and safely in fireplaces and fire pits; it’s also a great way to start your barbecue!

Down the Drain

Put small pieces in your sink and watch it “melt” safely down the drain; it biodegrades in both seawater and freshwater.

Compost

The liners are compostable in any compost facility – they’ll biodegrade in 60 days or less when in a moist soil environment.
